Finn Harps Celebrate World Mental Health Day

Great having some of the Finn Harps players along to take part in an exercise session to help celebrate World Mental Health Day. Also check out some of the photos from the session on either our FB page or twitter feed. The lads came in this morning following their 1-1 draw with Athlone last night. Exercise has been shown time and again to be effective in treating and preventing mental health issues. Exercise is medicine not only for the body for the mind and its really important to get this message across to the public. Treating mental health issues has to be multifaceted and there is a place for medication but it should be as an adjunct to a healthy physically active lifestyle rather than a substitute for it. There is no substitute for appropriate exercise. Exercise gives us a social outlet, a support network, helps release feel good chemicals in the brain, gets us setting and achieving goals, helps improve our self esteem and can help change our perceptions about ourselves and our social environment. Again a big thank you to the harps lads Packie Mailey, Keith Cowan, Josh Mailey, Tony Mc Namee, Gareth Harkin, Mickey Funston and Ciaran Gallagher for coming in to see us. Harps are having a great season so to date and are looking forward to taking on UCD on the 23rd of October in the playoffs as they look to gain promotion to the Premier Division. Harps take on Wexford this coming weekend in the final game of the season. All of Donegal is rooting for the lads so everyone try and get to the games and show your support. Well done to Ollie Horgan and the back room staff on a great season and as I said theres plenty more to come. The lads are all looking in great shape going into these final games so big congrats has to go to Mickey Mc Glynn who has been looking after the lads Physio all season and Michael Black who is heading up their strength and conditioning. Up the Harps!
